Custom homes, spec homes, guest houses and multi-family builds, from raw land to a finished home with one local builder.
Building a home involves a long chain of steps, and every one depends on the one before it. The lot has to be cleared and graded, the pad and foundation have to be right, and only then can the house go up.
Onalaska Builders builds new homes with our own crews. Because we also handle dirt work and foundations, you can take a project from a wooded lot to a finished home without lining up a separate company for each stage.

Every project is different, but most new homes around the lake follow the same path:
The four types of new construction we offer serve different goals.
You own the land and want a home built around how you live. Best when the layout, look and details matter to you.
A new home built on a proven floor plan. A fit if you want a new house without planning every detail yourself.
A smaller second dwelling on property you already own, for family, guests, an office or rental income.
Duplexes, triplexes and townhomes, usually built as rental or investment property.
Why it matters
On a typical build, the site contractor, the foundation contractor and the home builder are three different companies. When something is off, such as a pad that sits too low or a drainage path that runs toward the house, it is easy for each to point at the others.
With site prep, foundations and construction under one company, those stages are planned together, and there is one team responsible for how they fit. It also means one conversation about your schedule and budget instead of three.
Lake and timber country
Home sites around the lake range from waterfront lots to wooded acreage and rural tracts in Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity and Walker counties. Many need clearing, a driveway and septic planning before a house can go up, and lakeside lots can come with slopes and shoreline rules to plan around.
We build new homes within about 35 miles of Onalaska, including Livingston, Point Blank, Coldspring, Shepherd, Groveton, Trinity, Huntsville, Cleveland and Willis. See our full service area.
Questions
Yes. Custom homes, guest houses and other new builds are typically built on the owner's land, and we can prepare the site with land clearing, grading, a house pad and a foundation before construction starts.
Plan and budget, check the lot for access, slope, drainage, utilities, septic and any restrictions, prepare the site, pour the foundation, build the house, then finish the outside with driveways, decks and landscaping.
A custom home is built to your plan on your land. A spec home is built on a proven floor plan, usually before a specific buyer is involved, so it can be ready sooner with fewer decisions for you to make.
