General home repair & carpentry

Home Repair & Carpentry in Livingston and the Lake Livingston Area

Drywall, trim, flooring, sticking doors, drafty windows and rotted wood, fixed by crews who also build and remodel homes.

Repairs done with a builder's eye

Every house needs repairs sooner or later. A hole in the drywall, a door that will not latch, a soft spot in the floor or fascia that is starting to crumble are the kinds of problems that get worse if they wait.

Onalaska Builders handles home repair and carpentry with our own crews. Because we also remodel and build homes, we look at what caused the damage as well as the damage itself, so the repair lasts.

Lasting repairs

Fix the cause, not just the damage

Many repairs are symptoms of something else. Patching them without looking further usually means doing the same repair again:

  • Water-stained drywall or rotted subfloor often traces to a leak, a failing shower or roof damage. The source needs to be fixed first. See roof repair.
  • Rotted fascia and soffits are frequently caused by overflowing gutters. See gutter services.
  • Doors that stick and cracks above doorways can come from seasonal humidity, or from foundation movement.
  • Rotted window sills usually mean water is getting in around the window, so sealing matters as much as the new wood.

Common moments

Before a sale, after a storm

Getting ready to sell. Buyers and home inspectors notice soft wood at the fascia, doors that will not latch, stained ceilings and worn floors. Taking care of those items before listing can make a house show better and leave fewer surprises in the inspection report.

After a storm. Wind and heavy rain can open gaps around windows and doors, soak trim and let water into walls and ceilings. Once the source is stopped, the damaged drywall, wood and flooring can be repaired before the problem spreads. For roof and siding damage, see our roofing and exterior services.

East Texas homes

Why homes here need these repairs

Heat, humidity and heavy rain are hard on houses. Wood swells and shrinks, trim and fascia take a beating, and water finds its way into any weak spot. Lake homes, especially ones used only on weekends, can have problems develop unnoticed between visits.

Catching these issues early usually means a smaller repair. If you are seeing several at once, a larger project such as a whole-house remodel may be worth considering.

We handle home repairs within about 35 miles of Onalaska, including Livingston, Point Blank, Coldspring, Shepherd, Groveton, Trinity, Huntsville, Cleveland and Willis. See our full service area.

Questions

Home repair questions

What home repairs do you handle?

Drywall repair and texture matching, finish carpentry and built-ins, flooring installation, window and door repair, and rotten wood replacement for fascia, soffits, sills and subfloors.

Why does the same damage keep coming back?

Often because the cause was not fixed. Water stains, rotted wood and sticking doors can trace to leaks, overflowing gutters, water getting in around windows or foundation movement. Addressing the source makes the repair last.

What is the difference between home repair and handyman services?

Home repair and carpentry covers drywall, trim, flooring, windows and doors, and rotted wood. Handyman services cover smaller maintenance jobs such as pressure washing, gutters, TV mounting and grab bars.
