Why doors stick and how they are fixed
- Loose hinges. Worn or stripped hinge screws let a door sag and rub. Tightening or re-securing the hinges is often the fix.
- Humidity. Wood doors swell in humid weather and rub in summer. Adjusting, planing and sealing the edges helps.
- A shifted frame. When the opening is no longer square, the door binds or the latch misses the strike.
- Foundation movement. Doors that suddenly stick, along with cracks above the frame, can be a sign of foundation problems.

Broken and fogged window panes
A cracked pane is obvious. A fogged one is subtler: condensation or haze between the two layers of a double-pane window usually means the seal has failed. Either way, replacing the glass can restore the window without replacing the whole unit.

Sealing drafts and weatherstripping
Signs your doors and windows need sealing:
- You can feel moving air or see daylight around the edges
- Rooms near doors and windows are hard to keep comfortable

Why does my door stick?
